they've taken over!

The latest batch of garden variety partiers is now up in the shop. Next week, there will be bunnies and more lambs, and the following week, I'm thinking of doing a massive finger puppet update. Not that the finger puppets will be massive; the update will be. Thanks for stopping by! Hope you're all having a beautiful day!

spring feverish

Hey guys! Sorry about my unanticipated blog-break there. I have been such an absentee blogger these days. I am going to make an effort to be better about that now, but lately I've just needed time away from the computer, I think. I have been busy making new softies, spending time with my friends and family, knitting, reading, and picking up a few old projects that fell by the wayside as I whipped stuff up for the shop. I am super-excited that Spring is finally here and aim to have these little garden variety partiers ready for the shop update this Wednesday. I hope your Spring is off to a lovely start, too!

P.S. - I would like to take a moment to thank all of the wonderful folks who have left me such positive feedback on etsy. Thank you, every single one of you. I just took a look at my recent feedback today and was kinda blown away. You are all so sweet. You have no idea how happy your kind words make me. Thank you thank you THANK YOU! I would hug you all if I could. You guys rock!

little lambs

lambikins

These are going to be in tomorrow's shop update. Also, I am pushing back the time from 1PM to 3PM EST. I hope you all understand. I am going to need a little bit of extra time to photograph and color correct all the bugs and bunnies that I am working on for tomorrow. Also, although I appreciate your responses and enthusiasm, I am not able to reserve any of these. I am shutting off the computer until noon tomorrow so that I can get work done. There's a lot of stuff that I need to finish. I'd like to take next week off to work on my taxes (yeah, it's been rough going trying to work on them in bits and pieces because there's so much stuff to go through) and to tie up a few loose ends that I have let go for too long. The next update will hopefully be Wednesday the 26th. Thanks for dropping by, and I hope you're all having a lovely week.

it's a hoot and a holler

owl for Megan

You know when you have been meaning to say something for so long that when presented with the opportunity, all you can come up with is silence because suddenly the words you've been piling together and piecing carefully in your mind for so long have been blown away by the wind that's burst in through that open window? Yeah, that's kinda how I feel lately. Every time I think of something even remotely interesting to say on here, I have to hold off because either I am working on something or otherwise occupied, and when I finally manage to make the time, I just can't think of what to say or second-guess myself and end up concluding that whatever it was wasn't worth sharing. It's not quite like writer's block. It's more like performance anxiety. Like I'm about to sing some song, looked out into the audience, and suddenly forgot all the lyrics. It's part of the disconnect I've been feeling with Blogolandia lately. It's not you; it's me. Heh.

Anyway, the owl seen above is a special piece that I made for Megan upon her thoughtful boyfriend's request. He wanted to give her something special to celebrate passing her prelims and her oral exam, which she did. So congratulations, Megan! We knew you would rock it!

This is also the first and only owl I have ever made. I have always wanted to make one, but with so many fabulous owls out there, I was always a little daunted. I think that I was successful at coming up with a design that reflects my style and is very much in line with my particular softie aesthetic. Funnily enough, as I was working on this, I had plenty of real-life inspiration - there's a screech owl living in one of the oak trees in our neighbor's backyard, which kinda butts up to our porch. We hear it every night but have yet to actually see it. It has an interesting call, totally not like what one would expect. I remember hearing owls in Puerto Rico, and they hoo-hoo-hooted. Screech owls have a different call; it kinda sounds like it's lur-lur-lur-ling at you. Ummm, if that makes any sense. Anyway, I think I may play around more with this design and maybe make a screech owl. More on that soon....

P.S. For an overhead view of our little owl friend, please have a look at this great shot Megan took.

hooray for spring and bloggiversaries!

rejoicing bug

It definitely feels like Spring is here, for now at least. The snow has melted away, there's green on the ground again, and it feels balmy and beautiful. The new garden variety partiers are just rejoicing! By the way, in case you hadn't already noticed, I just realized I am perhaps a wee bit obsessed with my softies' behinds. But they're just so cute!

I also just realized that yesterday was this blog's one year anniversary. So happy bloggiversary to me! Woohoo! Thank you all for stopping by and reading and for all of your kind comments. I have been a little scattered lately; despite the fact that I knew it was coming up soon, I didn't plan for it. So next week I will hold a little giveaway to celebrate both Spring and this here bloggamathing's anniversary and also as a way of saying thank you to you guys for your continued support and readership. I'll share the details here as soon as I figure out what I am doing. For now, I encourage you all to go outside and take a walk and enjoy this gorgeous day we are having.

if "woodchucking" were an actual verb....

...we could say that there's been a lot of "woodchucking" around these parts. These little guys will be included in Friday's shop update.
